We aim to achieve a situation where operators can tie-back remote fields to existing subsea facilities over longer distances than is currently possible. We are currently identifying design drivers to define the optimal distance for passive insulated, actively heated and cold flow transport pipelines for thermal management and their smart combination with subsea boosting.
In particular, by conditioning oil-dominated well-streams in cold flow systems, remote fields can be connected to central host facilities using uninsulated small-diameter transport pipelines over very long distances - valuable for arctic subsea developments.
This technology enables the prospect of total subsea production facilities with no requirement for manned platforms, transforming the economics of field development.
The Submerged Production Unit (SPU) is a versatile hybrid structure designed to house large subsea processing plants and integration of prequalified equipment via standard interfaces.
The SPU enables larger extent of prefabrication and lower cost in short installation periods. This is an advantage in arctic regions where the operational season usually is shorter. It also leaves a low environmental impact during the lifetime from a total subsea production solution.
The SPU technology is a cost-effective technology platform, avoiding large construction vessels for installation and allowing for a fast and smooth removal after ended lifetime.
The Subsea 7 pipeline bundle product integrates the required flowlines and control systems necessary for any subsea development, and assembles them within a steel carrier pipe. Attached at each end of the pipeline bundle are the towhead structures, incorporating equipment and valves, designed specifically to meet the field requirements.
The bundle provides an excellent design choice in arctic conditions as it features active heating of the product lines. It has short installation time and can be installed where the seabed is dominated by iceberg scours.
