Seaway 7 offers installation services for WTG foundations through its Heavy Lift Vessels (HLV), Seaway Strashnov and Seaway Yudin.
In the last 12 years Seaway 7 has built up an extensive track record in installing a wide range of foundation types, ranging from monopiles and suction bucket jackets to tripod and pre-piled jackets using a pile installation frame.
Seaway 7 successfully completed the Beatrice Project (EPCI) in 2019. Beatrice, once fully operational, will be one of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farms, located approximately 13km from the Caithness coast. All Seaway 7 vessels contributed to deliver the design, fabrication and installation of 84 jacket foundations, weighing over 120,000Te, along with 165km of Inner-Array Cables.

Seaway 7 offers submarine cable- and subsea umbilical installation, repair and maintenance services.
Related services such as dive and Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) support, marine survey, Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) investigation and remedial cable protection services are also provided.
For the inner array cables (IAC) installation works, we use the world’s most sophisticated, bespoke designed vessels to make sure that the product is laid safely, with precision, in all weather conditions. Cable Lay Vessels (CLV) Seaway Phoenix and Seaway Aimery are fitted with the most modern equipment available to ensure that as few weather delays as possible are encountered during the installation campaign, giving our clients the schedule security that they need to complete their projects on time.

Seaway 7, the Renewables business unit of Subsea 7, is a highly capable and experienced partner for the delivery of fixed and floating offshore wind farm projects, as well as a provider of specialist heavy lifting and cable installation services.
Using our Heavy Lift Vessels, Seaway 7 can provide the transportation and installation of offshore substation jackets and topsides. To date, we have successfully installed more than 30 HVAC platforms.
The DP3 HLV Seaway Strashnov with its 5000t crane is especially well equipped for this work.

Subsea substation

A current challenge to increase the cost efficiency of the offshore wind industry is the capex and operational cost of the electrical distribution system including offshore substations.

A clear alternative to a traditional topside is to locate the substation subsea: it can be placed near the wind farm in deep waters enabling significant cost reductions, it does not affect negatively coastal communities or activities in the area, and it does not present challenge with dynamic high voltage cables.

Present technology status is TRL6-7 for 200MVA at 132kV / 33kV. To close the gap for 400MVA+ at 220kV / 66kV which is at TRL4 today, connector technology upgrades are required.

ABB has supplied more than 35 subsea transformers since the late 1990's and no failures has been reported.

With the carve out of its Power Grids business, ABB is flexible with regards to sub supply selection for HV electrical equipment. Sub suppliers can include Hitachi ABB Power Grids, GE, Smit, Chem and others. ABB furthermore has a solid experience in delivering modular packages, such as e-houses, to offshore applications.
